Fall/Winter 2014 already?
Starting a new design for Fall/Winter 2014...crazy! My mind is still in the summer. So, in all honestly, I shouldn't even be blogging right now, since I'm feeling rather sick. In fact, I'm taking a sick day today from work since I came down with possibly the worst cold in a long time (b/c I always get super freaked out when I start having a sore throat--it's a fate worse than death, as my hubby would say, of me)--but sometimes it's good to just blog about what's going on, to take my mind off of being sick. I consider that therapeutic, I guess. :)
So I decided to post kind of my design “process”, even if I am not sure if I’ll end up using it. But about a month ago, I drafted this pattern for a knit dress. Started with a blouse pattern I found in the book, and modified as I went. I’m liking the combo of materials except I’m not sure what I’ll find when we come into actual production, but for now, this is what I came up with. I’m thinking of putting an exposed zipper on the back of the bodice, but not sure how to quite do that yet with knits. I really honestly have not sewn with knits before, so it’s scary! (please don’t judge…) : } I like the sleeves and how they puff and also have the finishing band that matches the collar. Contemplating making a little tie using the soft floral knit too, kind of like the one i mocked up.
We just came back from the LA Textile Fair this week (which is how I got sick--first baby J caught it, and then passed it to all of us, except for lucky Hubby), and I have a room full of swatches on the floor...scary, but also a good process for me to start thinking about what fabrics I want for next season...stay tuned!
