Creating Memories...and Styling your EleStory (Part One)

My little girl June and I had an amazing time a couple of weeks ago in San Francisco for our photoshoot with my talented photographer friend Jenny (@Jenny Soi photography), and I got to go shopping for our outfits for the shoot!

To be completely honest, I found it exciting (because I can't remember the last time I spent a half day shopping by myself!) but also a bit daunting at first to think about what stores to go to and how I wanted to style the pieces for the shoot. Since we receive so many question about how to style your EleStory pieces, I thought I would share in this two-part series (part two is HERE!) what I learned from my own shopping trip and encourage you to have a little fun!

For this special shoot, the first outfit June and I picked out is the Spring Ballerina mommy-and-me set in Lilac (her dress is here, and my skirt is here)
I thought I would go a little casual since we are going to a cute little area in San Francisco called Hayes Valley, against a gorgeous backdrop of a candy store called "Miette".

We were literally kids in a candy store...so much eye candy! {wink, wink}

June grabbed (just a few) treats in her little basket...

For my sparkly Midi Skirt in Lilac, I tried on many different tops that would have worked well, but in the end decided to go with this tailored chambray shirt I found a while back from jcrew. I liked how tailored this one was so that there's not a lot of material to tuck into the skirt. In case you're interested, I share below a few tops I also looked at while shopping for our photoshoot.

As for the casual chambray shirt option, luckily you can find so many different washes and options these days! The Espadrilles I had from a few years ago and love to bring them out for casual summer outfits. You can also wear a statement necklace like the one I have on (barely visible in the photo, sorry!), or just keep it plain.

June's styling was so simple because we already had some gold sandals she owned, and for her hair I wanted it up because she usually has her hair flying all over the place. My friend Kelsey (who is a talented hair dresser!) was so sweet to help us curl and put up. If June had chosen to wear the girls' version of the Ballerina skirt, I could have also bought her a similar chambray shirt or a cotton tee that can have spakles on it. I also compiled at the end of this blog post a small sampling of tops I think would be so cute with our girls' Ballerina skirts!

And P.S. spoiler alert: June is holding her new friend, Uni, who is wearing a matching Ballerina dress in Lilac!  We have an exclusive collaboration with doll maker Daintycheeks coming up in just a couple of days on March 1st!!! We can't wait to show you the entire lineup that will be ready for purchase on our site for a very limited, two-week engagement!

Last but not least, here are some basic tops I think would go well with our Ballerina skirts, clockwise from Top Left: Everlane blouse, Michael Stars ballet top, Jcrew striped tee, and Michael Stars tee again (they come in different colors!)

Shoe suggestions: ballet flats, espadrilles, short ankle boots, pumps... really so many options to suit your style!

And for girls' top suggestions, clockwise starting with top left: sweater cardigan from Nordstroms, Jcrew striped sweater, Mini Boden top, and a springy tulip top from Jcrew.

Shoes: lots of choices for girls too! Livieandluca, another SF Bay Area company I love, they carry a lot of nice shoes for Spring. Ballet flats, sandals, even little boots will be so cute!

I hope you found this even slightly helpful! Just remember, have fun with it, and whatever suits your style and personality! Remember to tag us #EleStyle so we can see how you wear your EleStory!

xx,
Judy
