Spotlight on the everyday Ele Story Mama: Britt Fisk
Hello lovelies!
We started doing Spotlight on the Everyday Ele Story Mama several months back, and it has truly been one of the most amazing things I've been able to embark on through Ele Story -- more than my love for designing and making clothes for your little girls, I find your stories so awe-inspiring. Every one of you has a story to tell, and I love that I get to share yours through this little community.
Today, our spotlight shines brightly on Britt Fisk, a beautiful mama whom we were blessed to have stumbled upon when she so graciously blogged about how pleased she was to have received her Ele Story dresses for her girls. We were immediately drawn to Britt through her candid writing about family, life, Faith, and raising her children on a ranch--and even a handful of amazing recipes I have flagged to try! So we sent her some questions to get to know her better, and I was so taken by her responses -- some made me cry (in a good way of course!). Hope you too, will enjoy getting to know Britt through our little Q & A and through her lovely blog! (Photo credit goes to, of course, the talented Britt herself.) Thank you, again, Britt. We're fans of yours for life!
What is the best thing your mother has ever taught you?
My mom has taught me that our lives are not our own. She's the most selfless person I know - always doing for others. She's helped me navitage these early years of motherhood, assuring me that each inconvenience, moment of frustration and piece of heartache is given to us with the opportunity for growth and humility. Now, I still have so much to learn and put into practice, but she is a mother who has been and will continue to be an example for me of what I'd like to become.
What three words would you use to describe your mother?
Faithful, humble, selfless
What is a favorite memory of you and your mother?
I have so many, but I feel that more than any one memory, her overarching ability to always be just who we needed her to be stands out the most. She was a college-educated woman who decided to be a stay-at-home mom, and while that can sometimes be difficult to reconcile in a world that often attaches your worth to worldly achievements, she mothered with grace and passion. She made everything special! From birthdays to first days of school and custom Halloween costumes to never missing an activity of ours. It wasn't that things were extravagant...but just enough out of the ordinatry for us to know she cared so much. I never, ever felt unloved...and that meant more than anything else ever could.
What are you passionate about?
My God, my family, and my vocation as a mother.
Be who God meant you to be, and you will set the world on fire. - Catherine of Siena
What is your favorite way for creative outlet?
I love to write, and I've recently (in the last few years) taken up photography. I have two sites I try to maintain regularly: www.thefiskfiles.com where I journal our life on the ranch lands of New Mexico while raising five little ones and a herd of cattle. www.brittfiskphotography.com is where I showcase my professional work. Both give me a nice outlet when I need one, and I'm so thankful for the first in that we will have our story to look back in the years to come!
I try to stay out of their way, if that makes sense. Sure, I've provided toys for imaginative play. We read daily. And, I'm constantly trying to discover what makes each of them "tick" - but, I feel the most important thing is for them to have the room and freedom to discover this world through their little eyes. So, as much as I'm able to, I let them. They build forts, try to set traps for the wild cottontails nearby (they've yet to catch one), and pretend our treehouse is a pirate ship! Each day is something new, and I feel their creativity blossoms in this environment, where things are just a bit simpler than most place
Britt thinks...(and we quote)...
Ele Story dresses are timeless. I want my girls to be (and look like) sweet, little girls as long as possible. These dresses have the perfect combination of femininity and simplicity!
Her little girl says...
Ele Story dresses are pretty! (she doesn't talk much yet). ;)
